Overmolding quotations depend on more than the outer silicone shape. The rigid insert, surface condition, fixture method and required interface performance can change the mold and process.
Identify every substrate
Provide the exact plastic resin, metal alloy, surface finish, cable jacket and any coating. “Plastic” or “metal” is not enough to evaluate bonding or molding temperature.
Define what the interface must do
- Is a chemical bond required, or can mechanical retention carry the load?
- Must the interface seal water, air or another fluid?
- Will the part see peel, pull, torque, bending or thermal cycling?
- Which rigid surfaces must stay free of silicone and flash?
Include the test method
A target such as “strong adhesion” is difficult to verify. A pull force, leak pressure, peel method, cycle count or assembly test gives both teams a measurable acceptance condition. Include sample quantity and expected annual volume so the tooling and insert-loading plan can be evaluated realistically.
